Endless Summer Love.....

Greg and Gina...two of the most easy going, coolest people I have ever had the privilege of meeting and working with. They had scheduled an engagement session with us on a Saturday, but due to some unforeseen circumstances (more like really messed up circumstances), we had to reschedule. Anyone in their situation would be livid, myself included, but when it came time to shoot on the following Monday, they acted as if it didn't even happen. They forgave and forgot and decided to enjoy the rest of their time here in the islands. I have to give them props. Personally, I don't think I could have done what they did so easily.

But I digress. We did a sunrise session with them at Makapuu beach. I felt really bad for them. They were at the beach, but couldn't go in. It's probably one of their most favorite places to be and they couldn't even take a dip. Sorry guys. Then we went to the top of Tantalus where we got to see an incredible view of Diamond Head as well as of the city below. After that, we went to the post office. I know what you're thinking, "The post office.....really?!?!?!". Yes really. The one down here as least has some great architecture.

Can you guess where we ended the day......ding ding ding, at the beach. Well, it was more park than beach, but we were near the ocean. You get the whole water theme right? We went to Kakaako Park in case you were wondering. After doing some "surfer pose" and sunset shots, we called it a day and what a day it was. They were so fun to work with, it didn't even feel like work. I hope they had as much fun as I did. Here is a video that I made of their engagement. Being a Korean, whenever I photograph a Korean couple or one of them being Korean, I always expect some kimchee for dinner but didn't happen, hahaha!

Meeting and working with great people surely make up for it.

They pulled off both romantic and fun poses and since we did a engagement session prior to the wedding we were comfortable with each other and they did an awesome job.

We kept laughing and having fun the whole day cause both Reuben and Rae have a very

pleasant and bright personality.

Picture Perfect!

Ryan & Katrina - January 9, 2010

2010 is beginning to look like a awesome year. I didn't start off the new year with just one great wedding, but two!

If I had to describe Ryan & Katrina's wedding day it would be simple yet elegant. Nothing too extravagant or outlandish, which in my humble opinion is the better way to go. Who needs the added stress of planning a big wedding, am I right? That being said Our Lady of Peace is one of the ideal churches to have a wedding ceremony (which is where they had theirs, fyi). It's not terribly big and it has beautiful architecture. The ceremony was just beautiful and I saw something that I haven't seen in a long time. As they emerged from the church, they released two white doves that flew into the wild blue yonder. There's just something romantic about it that I can't put into words. I don't know why more couples don't do it.

The real fun began after the ceremony. We headed down to the downtown post office to take some bridal photos. I bet some of you are thinking, the post office? Really? Forget the fact that it's a post office and you have a place with terrific architecture for some beautiful photos. The bridal party was terrific. The bridal party was really fun and energetic, everything a photographer can ask for. They were up to do anything to get the perfect shot.

Their reception held a couple surprises, for me at least. Usually the guy is the one who serenades the girl, but it was Katrina who did the serenading. Her performance was very beautiful heartwarming. The other surprise was their reenactment of Dirty Dancing. You can tell they put a lot of hard work into it and it showed in their performance. You had to see it. I just hope one of their relative had a camcorder and will post it on youtube. All in all it was a beautiful end to the perfect day. Congratulations you two!

There's nothing like a beautiful wedding to kick off the new year right, and what a beautiful wedding it was. The day went off without a hitch. I arrived at the beautiful Halekulani Hotel just in time to see the girls in all their radiant beauty. Of course Jamie was the most glamorous of them all, *wink wink*. The guys cleaned up pretty well themselves. Sometimes I get a wedding party that refuse to loosen up. I try to make them feel comfortable enough to be themselves, and in turn allows me to capture natural and fun moments. Fortunately, this group was not one of them. Everyone was joking, laughing, and just having a great time. Which is what weddings are all about, celebrating the love two people have for each other. Before we knew it, it was time to head to the church. The ceremony was held at the Central Union Church, which was simple yet elegant. It was beautiful. What more can you ask for? One of the highlights of the day (besides witnessing them exchanging vows), has got to be their entrance into the ballroom. The entire bridal party (entering in pairs of course), danced their way in. I wish I had a camcorder with me. The rest of the night seemed to just fly by. A cake was cut, a dance was shared, and a few speeches were given (as well as some roasting...I mean toasting). I feel honored to be included in their special day. Congratulations again you two! I wish you nothing but happiness and good fortune!

Altimate Engagement

Over the past several months, you may have noticed "videos" popping up here and there on our blog. Their main purpose was strictly promotional. When ever we had an engagement shoot or small wedding, a videographer would tag along and film what goes on "behind the scene".

Amy stumbled upon our blog and watched our videos. She would watch them over and over again. She liked them so much, she wanted to have one of her own...and we were happy to oblige.

We took them to the usual spots - Old Pali Road, Tantalus, and Waikiki. They were a couple of the coolest cats we've had the pleasure to photograph.

A couple of weeks after their engagement photo shoot, they were scheduled to be married at the Kahala Hotel & Resort (December 3, 2009). It was at the reception that they wanted to play their video. Our guys had to put in some overtime, but they made it with time to spare. From what I heard, the video went over rather well. Kudos to the video guys. For those who weren't there to see it, here it is, along with photos from their engagement photo shoot.

Simple yet Elegant...

Sherman & Leah Lee 10.18.09

The title says it all.....Simple yet Elegant.....with a dash of hilarious moments. During the getting ready phase of the day, Sherman had to go through a a battery of tests before he could see his bride to be. The first test involved bananas being hung from his Groomsmen's waists. I'll keep this PG and let you use your imagination. The second test was getting past his soon to be father in law (who was literally standing in front of her door guarding her). After narrowly convincing her father that he will take care of Leah, he faced his third challenge....serenading Leah. If she was happy with his singing, then and only then will he be able to enter the castle tower and bestow his gaze upon his beautiful bride to be. If you didn't guess, she made him do it a few times before she gave in and let him in. You had to be there.

The rest of the day went rather well. Bridal party shot at La Pietra and the Kahala Hotel & Resort (that's where Leah works BTW...the Kahala not La Pietra). Very fun group to photograph. Willing to anything we asked to get the shot. Fun times. Next came the traditional tea ceremony and soon after, the ceremony.

The ceremony site was at the Lanai Ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel. Half of the room was a lanai overlooking Waikiki beach. Not a bad way to get married. The ceremony went off without a hitch. Tears were shed, rings were exchanged, and a kiss was shared. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful ceremony.

The reception room was a sight to be seen. Gorgeous calla lilies placed in tall vases inhabited every table. Beams of light shot up along the walls. A back lit head table with a semi roman motif sat waiting in the middle room for the bridal party. It kind of felt like I was at a gala of some sort, but that's how weddings are supposed to right? The rest of the evening was like a fairytale. Drinking champagne, dancing, catching up with old friends and family. That is up until their first dance. They start off slow then bust out with a medley of songs with their corresponding dance moves. I wish I had a video camera.

Congratulations again you two. I wish you nothing but happiness and good fortune!

Another Rainy Day in Paradise

What are the odds of shooting two weddings a week apart from each other and having it rain at both?!?! I'm beginning to believe I'm cursed or something. This week, we traveled to the beautiful island of Kauai to photograph Brian & Sharliene's wedding. Like I said, the weather was less than spectacular, but they were both in high spirits. They live in Washington so they're probably used to it right? Anyway, the entire bridal party was a blast to photograph. They were joking and laughing the whole day and were up to do anything for a great photo. Now, onto the reception. Their first dance was a sight to be seen. Unique and imaginative. Let's just say you had to be there. It was awesome! Great job you guys. If you put half as much effort into your marriage that you put into rehearsing that routine, you'll make it for sure. All in all, it was probably one of the funnest weddings I've been to in a while. Congratulations again you guys!

Special moments

Elegance and simplicity was this intimate weddings character, with a little touch of whimsy at the end.

This wonderful couple, Graham from North Carolina and Olga from Siberia, committed themselves to each other on the beautiful property of Ihiliani with two parents in attendance.

They decided for their big splash they would literally make a splash... in the ocean after the ceremony.

rain rain go away...

It's seems like just yesterday that we shot Kurt & Lori's engagement, yet here we are shooting their wedding. Their day started out pretty well, overcast, but well. We hoped it would clear up like it did the day before, but sadly it didn't. It was nice a dry up until the beginning of the reception. Tables were moved under cover wherever possible, people were trying to take cover under whatever they could find, but by the end of the night everyone was soaked. When something like this happens, you can do either one of two things:

1) Let it ruin your special day.

or

2) Just run with it with a smile on your face.

How did they handle it you ask? Despite all the rain, they were laughing, smiling, and just making the best of it. If they could laugh and have a good time through humidity and mosquito bites during their engagement shoot, they could handle a little rain. That's the kind of people they are and that's what made them so easy and fun to photograph. The fact that we knew her sister Cheryl (who was also her maid of honor), made it that much more personal to us. We wish you two nothing but happiness. Congratulations!

Simple, Intimate, Perfect. That's how I would describe the wedding I shot last week. Kevin & Sun Young came to Hawaii just to get married on our sandy shores. Most couples prefer larger weddings, but Kevin & Sun Young wanted something a little more intimate yet elegant. So they rented a house near North Shore and only invited their immediate families. Add in great scenery with a dash of awesome weather and you have a perfect wedding. Here's a video we put together for them. Congratulations again you two!

Aidan's Baby Portraits & time-laps

Aidan came to see us again with his mom, Alex, for his second photoshot. He was only 4 months old the first time and now, at 7 months, we get to do it again and show his important stages of development.
I never get over the amazement of how these little tikes grow.

We both felt very comfortable because we had an engagement photo session few months ago. Sure enough they were at ease in front of camera. It was even better cause I photographed Mel's brother's wedding few years ago.

It was great being a part of their most special day.

If I had to describe Brad & Janeen's wedding in a nutshell, it would have to be "Simple yet Elegant"....with a lot of fun. The guys were cracking jokes and the girls were very easy going. Sean and Shayna, what an awesome couple to work with. They came in a couple months ago to do a maternity photo shoot, which led to doing a movie poster, which led to me shooting their wedding. This was such a beautiful wedding. Starting with an elegant ceremony at the Hilton Hawaiian Villages Ocean Crystal Chapel then a heart warming and fun reception in the fantastic ballroom. Chey-Ane, Stuart and the bridal party really showed the crowd how to bust a move when they were pulled to the dance floor by surprise Hawaiian and Tahitian performers.

This past week one of our three photographers Lew Harrington, had a great time working with Melissa Lee to create her senior portrait. Melissa is a senior at Iolani and a cheerleader. Melissa has a lot of energy so Lew chose a backdrop that reflected her personality. She thought the location was great and they had a lot of fun shooting there.

Since this year's carnival theme was "Hollywood", we were the perfect fit for the job.
